Choosing the Theme for Ci 4.0

STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. But STEM isn’t just those individual scientific fields. It is the integration of those disciplines in a way that allows teams of people to solve really hard problems that face our world.

Therefore to teach STEM well the team needs a problem to solve. They can bring their collective interests, specializations, and knowledge to the problem to develop a solution.

At Camp Infinity we select a new theme each year for our summer camps so we can highlight problems for our campers to solve. This theme gives us a framework on which to structure our varied activities. The activities require expertise in science, technology, engineering, and math. This allows campers to see how a variety of science fields are required to solve a common problem. This helps foster teamwork—no one person can solve the problem alone, they need others who have knowledge and skills they don’t.

When we choose our theme each year, we pick something of broad interest, relevant to the 21^st century, and a problem with a strong apologetics application so we can equip our campers with biblical answers to the issues that face our culture today. These are the problems these science-minded young people may one day be helping to solve and they need to know how to think biblically about them.

Having a different theme each year allows us to develop new and exciting STEM activities. Last year campers built solar ovens, flew drones, and, of course, programmed robots. This year we have different activities planned so there’s always something new, but here’s a sneak peek at Ci 4.0—robotics is definitely involved!
