Beating the Winter Blues: Fossils, Zip Lines, and Stargazing

Ready for winter to be over? We’re with you!

Recently, I wrote a blog about the “winter doldrums”—a condition that effects up to 25% of people. And we offered a solution to help you fight the winter blues:

Create anticipation—plan something fun to look forward to. Research shows that people generally get a “greater boost of happiness from the anticipation of the trip than from the trip itself.”

And, of course, what could be more exciting to plan than a week with Camp Infinity in Northern Kentucky? (The answer is: nothing!) Here are just a few things you can look forward to if you’re joining us for an overnight camp this summer:

  • Fossil hunt. We’ll all head down to search for fossils at Big Bone Lick State Park, a gorgeous state park known for Ice Age fossils (though you probably won’t find any mammoths or saber-toothed cats during this excursion!) that features beautiful hiking trails, a bison herd, and a museum.

This trip is part of our “conflicting worldviews” training. Big Bone Lick is a secular museum and park so you will hear about fossils and rocks layers from an evolutionary perspective. This helps to make the important point that it’s not a battle over the evidence—you’ll find fossils at the Creation Museum too (but they will be in glass cases, not in a creek!)—it’s a battle over the interpretation of the evidence based on your starting point of man’s word or God’s Word.

  • Zip Line Adventure. Fly through the air on the biggest and best zip lines in the Midwest at the Creation Museum. You’ll soar over the lake and into the woods as you challenge yourself and get quite the adrenaline rush! And, of course, we’ll take a look at the physics behind this adventure.
  • Stargazing. God’s heavens are a sight to behold—and the sight gets even better with a high-powered telescope in an observatory. We’ll join astronomer Dr. Danny Faulkner for a special night of stargazing. You never know what you might see including planets in our solar system, nebula, globular clusters, and more.

And that’s just a sampling of what you’ll experience during your week here! I didn’t even mention the hands-on STEM activities, robotics, drones, tour of the Ark Encounter, delicious food…and on it goes!
