Is STEM Just About Knowledge?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and a STEM camp, of course, teaches these inter-connected disciplines through hands-on activities. At Camp Infinity, we take that a step further and teach young people apologetics (faith defense) and how to think biblically about the issues of our day. But is STEM just about knowledge?

Many people, especially young people interested in STEM, believe that it is. These young people are curious and hungry for information and answers—and we love it! Those are exactly the kind of campers we want to come to Ci. But STEM is much more than just information or even problem solving.

Knowledge and the application of a biblical worldview to that knowledge is essential, but STEM is far more than knowledge. It’s learning how to work together to solve problems in a team environment. This is an essential skill in today’s STEM work environment. The image many of us have of a maverick, lone scientist making a ground-breaking discovery is not the norm. Usually problems are solved by many heads put together! That’s why we focus heavily on teamwork and communication—things you can’t learn on the internet or by reading a book or even doing an experiment by yourself.

We often find many of our campers come to Ci with a lot of knowledge but learn even more by working with the other campers and counselors. We seek to encourage our campers to:

1) recognize the gifts God has given them.

2) realize those gifts are for the sole purpose of pointing others to Christ and thereby bring glory to their Creator.

3) learning how to use their gifts to work with others, humbling themselves for the good of the team and glory of God.

It is our sincere prayer that every Ci camper will not only seek knowledge but will learn how to use it for the glory of their great Savior and Creator, Jesus Christ.
